Stonebrook completes Lincoln Housing Authority 2014 Phase 1 & 2 ReRoof Program.

Stonebrook Roofing has completed contracts by the Lincoln Housing Authority to replace roofing and guttering systems on 37 homes. The contacts were awarded in 2 Phases consisting of Phase 1, 27 Homes and Phase 2, 10 Homes. The contracts were based on competitive bid and lowest dollar amounts.

The combined 37 homes had new Class 4 Impact Resistant shingles installed that can withstand impacts from flying objects to a much greater extent than a common asphalt shingle. The impact resistant rating system ranks the Class 4 as the highest rating level to impact resistance. This Shingle essentially eliminates the possibility of damage from hail stones. To meet this standard the shingles must exceed the ASTM UL D2218 performance standard test.

Class 4 Shingles are available for all residential applications and Insurance companies in many parts of the US discount premiums when these shingles are installed in place of regular asphalt shingles.

Homeowners may qualify for insurance discounts of up to 30% or more. Stonebrook performed this project with multiple crews in order to compress project completion time.

Ben Eberle of Stonebrook managed all aspects of the project.

Stonebrook awarded Renovation of Squirrel Cage Jail in Council Bluffs, Iowa

Stonebrook Roofing received the contract award for the Squirrel Cage Jail. The project award was provided to Stonebrook and based on best proposal and best price. This project is the latest of many historical renovation projects where Stonebrook’s experience has provided value to a Historical Society for buildings requiring renovation that are as old as 100 years.

The building was built in 1885 and was in continuous use until 1969 as the Pottawattamie County Jail. It was acquired by the Council Bluffs Park Board in 1971 for preservation, and was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 by the United States Government. The Historical Society led an effort in 1977 to save the jail, and today owns and operates the facility as a Museum.

The design and size of the Squirrel Cage is a one-of-a-kind structure. It was one of 18 revolving (“squirrel cage”, “human rotary”, or “lazy Susan”) jails built. It is the only three-story cage jails ever built. Today, only 3 revolving jails remain: a one-story structure in Gallatin, Missouri; a two-story jail in Crawfordsville, Indiana; and the unique three-story in Council Bluffs. All three are preserved as museums. The Squirrel Cage structure is one-of-a-kind and unlikely to be duplicated again.

The renovation work entails removal of Asbestos and Slate Roofing tile, as well as refurbishment of the Copula, Finial, and Gutters. The Roofing system will be replaced with EcoStar Sustainable Majestic Slate tile. EcoStar manufactures a Recycled Synthetic alternative to Natural Slate roofing. The tiles are made with recycled plastic and rubber that duplicate the look of nature stone products.

Stonebrook anticipates the completion of the project in 60 days depending on weather conditions. The project is managed by Luke Stater and can be contacted at 402-934-5559.
